Tarrytown Castle Hotel & Spa

Perched atop one of the highest points in Westchester County - this 31 room hotel, spa, and five-star restaurant is about as good as it gets.
From the heights of your bedroom terrace you'll be able to enjoy the Castle's views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline.
You'll dine at the award winning French restaurant, Equus...
Lounge by the pool...
And unwind from the stresses of everyday life with a world-class massage at the THANN Spa and Sanctuary.
This is the best hotel, within a stone's throw of the big apple, for a genuinely spectacular quick, country getaway.
General Howard Carroll, a wealthy New York businessman, built the castle in phases during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Inspiration for the design came from medieval military fortifications found in Scotland and Wales.
Carroll and his wife used the property as a private residence and enjoyed entertaining New York's elite society of the day. JP Morgan and Andrew Carnegie were among the guests at the family's lavish celebrations.
Lofty views can be had from the Caste's turret
After Howard Carroll's death the family eventually sold off the castle and it went on to serve several purposes throughout the 20th century.
In the 1940s, during WWII, it was used as a lookout tower by local volunteers spying for enemy planes. Though the 50s it was the corporate headquarters for a financial investment firm.
The town of Tarrytown New York designated the castle as a historic landmark in 1981, barring it from ever being destroyed or modified.
In the mid 1990s that the Castle was transformed into a luxury hotel.
Today, The Castle Hotel and Spa is owned and operated by the Sankara Hospitality group; and is a proud member of the Historic Hotels of America and Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
The Luxury Suites: are huge: 1,000 square feet! They have one large living room, one separate bedroom ( w/ king-size bed); a warm cozy fireplace, and an over-sized marble bathroom.
Outside your suite's bedroom, on your own private turret alcove, there are breathtaking views of the Hudson River, Palisades, and Manhattan skyline. $800+ per night.
The Junior Suites: are 600 square foot rooms which also have the outdoor terrace and views. There's a four post king size bed, fireplace, and an over-sized marble bathroom. $580+ per night.
Deluxe Rooms: Come with either one king size bed or two queen size beds and have nature views of the Castle's 11 acre estate. No fireplace (if that matters) $470+ per night.
Castle Junior Suite: Is
one large room with a big beautiful king size bed, private shower/bath
tub, office area, and lofty views of Westchester County.
All the rooms come with a mini-bar, plush bathrobes to warm
the spirits, and all the high-tech amenities you'd expect.
Tarrytown Castle also offers a range of
package deals, which include lodging, meals, and tickets to local
attractions like Kykuit or the Great Jack O Lantern Blaze. Ask Gilbert Baeriswil, the General Manager for more details.
Five-Star Dining at Equus...
After settling into your room, skip down to one of the Westchester's most well regarded five-star restaurants, Equus.
Renowned Head Chef Marc Lippman serves French Auberge (rural) style cuisine and religiously uses produce from our Hudson Valley farms.
Order the Butter Poached Maine Lobster or the Loin of Colorado Lamb ala carte ($49).
Or go for the 5 course prixe fixe menu, which includes appetizers, a seafood entree, a meat entree, and two desserts for $95.
The ambience is old-world and high class. Rich wood paneling, stone fireplaces, chandeliers, the whole bit. Certainly a memorable place for any occasion. (Ahem, guys, thinking of popping the question?)
The restaurant has several dining rooms. But try to get a table in the sunny Garden Room, which has dazzling views of the Hudson River and Manhattan Skyline; or the Oak Room.
Interestingly, the Oak Room's oak wood paneling came from a house that was originally owned by the Sun King himself, King of France - Louis the XIV (that's the 14th).
General Howard Carrol, the man who built the castle, had the paneling brought intact to Tarrytown New York over 100 years ago during construction.
Plenty of Space to Stretch Out and Relax...
11 acres of gardens and open lawns surround the castle. Stroll or jog through it all using the 1-mile path that loops through the property.
When it's time to cool off, there's an outdoor seasonal pool with a Whirlpool and a built-in Grotto Bar.
A few weekends over the summer Equus hosts a nighttime, poolside cocktail party here.
Local brewers like Captain Lawrence are on hand pouring the drinks and head chef Marc Lippman serves up some mean hors d'oeuvres.
The THANN Sanctuary Spa was a welcome addition in 2013 after a massive renovation/construction project at the Castle.
THANN is a well-regarded company based in Thailand and has locations in Hong Kong and Australia and throughout Asia.
This is the first one built in the United States.
There are 8 treatment rooms and 1 couples VIP lounge. A variety of massages are offered on their menu. One unique specialty is the Thai Massage - a fully clothed, assisted yoga type session with lots of stretching.
